Weeks 1–4: Tonal Values & Grisaille
Discover why tonal value is the foundation of every great painting. Using the classical grisaille technique, you'll work in monochrome to explore light, shadow, contrast and form without the distraction of colour. These exercises will strengthen your observational skills and teach you how to create convincing depth and volume—essential techniques for every oil painter.
Apply everything you've learned by creating a finished oil painting from a reference image of your choice. With a strong focus on tonal values, composition and light, you'll develop a confident painting process while receiving individual guidance from Raylene. Leave with a completed artwork and a deeper understanding of how value brings paintings to life.
